gloriaIn honor of Womens History Month,New York Business owners,dignitaries and Politicians joined the National Association of Women Business owners, New York City at their premier 2006 Signature Awards.The Signature Awards honor notable women business owners from New York City in four categories-Lifetime Achievement, Social  Entrepreneur, Promise and Master Awards.

The 2006 Honorees represent women from the legal,non-profit, health, and marketing education industries. “I am so impressed with these women for their success in both business and their communities,” said NAWBO NY Representative.  “Each honoree  overcame tremendous odds and continue to represent successful woman business owners in New York City with pride and grace.

The Following Women were honored with the 2006,Signature Awards: The Lifetime Achievement Award Winner was Gail Koff, the woman behind the nationally-recognized law firm everyone knows, Jacoby & Myers,    The Social Entrepreneur Award Winner, Nancy Ploeger, President of the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce could teach for-profit entrepreneurs a lesson in how to listen to customers, The Promise Award Winner – Margaret Velez, an exercise instructor –couldn’t get a bank loan. Instead a client paid her the ultimate compliment by loaning her the money to start Volar Pilates, The Master Award Winner, Janice Hamilton, JMH Education has pioneered the field of education marketing drawing attention to such issues as nutrition, food safety, health, multiculturalism, literacy and environmentalism,Open From American Express Signature Award honoree were Susan Slover and Rosemary Kuropat,from the Slover and Company. The Emcee  was Sharon Epperson, a veteran broadcast and print journalist, is a correspondent at CNBC covering personal finance. Presenter Nell Merlino is Co-founder and CEO of Count Me In for Women's Economic Independence and created and produced the immensely successful Take Our Daughters To Work Day for the Ms. Foundation for Women in 1993.

 The Honorary Chairs were some of NYC’s most successful women business owners: Penny Glazier, Principal The Glazier Group, Caroline Hirsch, Founder and owner, Carolines on Broadway and Saundra Parks owner The Daily Blossom.Manhattan Boro President Scott Stringer and Council Member Gail Brewer were also in attendance supporting the event.

Since 1985, NAWBO-NYC has been the collective backbone of the city's 330,000 women business owners, who generate nearly $65 billion in sales annually. NAWBO-NYC offers facilitated networking, supportive and educational programs, inspirational speakers and other special events to help members grow their businesses.

NAWBO-NYC is a member of the National Association of Women Business Owners, the only dues-based national organization representing the interests of women entrepreneurs in all industries, with nearly 80 chapters nationwide.
