 With great honor and prestige I, Patricia Mahecha, newly elected President of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Queens and Vice President of Abetex Int’l Brokers, along with the recently inaugurated Executive Board members welcome all of you to a new chapter in the history of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Queens. The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Queens is a non-profit organization which seeks to advance the development of Hispanic small businesses within the Queens borough. Our mission is to encourage, foster and stimulate commerce, trade, business, finance, and professional interest in the Hispanic community in order to not only bolster a definite sense of unity among all minorities in business, with emphasis on the Hispanic-American community, but also improve interaction within the minority business community and society as a whole. During this new term, we have made it a priority to achieve a number of goals that I will outline throughout this letter, as well as continue to assist the Hispanic owned businesses in Queens which is what we firmly stand for. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and give a brief background of my qualifications as President so that you may rest assured that the leadership of the Chamber is in good hands. I am the Vice President of Abetex Int’l Brokers, where I hold a Broker’s license P&C and Notary Public. I have led in the company’s rapid growth by contributing to its sales and marketing development. I am currently attending St John’s University, pursuing a Masters degree in Commercial Insurance (CPCU). I am very passionate about assisting the Hispanic community; I have held various leadership roles with the Elmhurst Lions Club from 2002 to 2005 and founded the Universal Lions Club of Queens in 2006. I held the position of First Vice-President of the HCCQ from 2007 to 2009, during which I gained an array of experience that will facilitate my ability to carry out my duties and obligations to the etiquette, charm and glamour. For the last three years, I have partnered with Victoria Schneps to present the Miss Chiquitita Contest in the Spanish version of Schneps’ COURIER “EL CORREO.” I feel as though I am at the peak of my career and am very fortunate to have attained this distinguished position with this influential organization. I am fully committed to serving the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Queens and hope to realize all of our goals into future successes. Chamber. Aside from this, I work with Modelamos Talent Agency, where I teach young Hispanic girls This term, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Queens aims to: 1) increase membership, 2) encourage members to become active advocates within the organization by taking advantage of the opportunities to present seminars, voice concerns and questions during meetings, and contribute any innovative ideas to the Chamber’s programming, 3) create a strong bond among the members of the HCCQ through networking, 4) provide constructive, profitable, and up to the minute information to our members regarding what is occurring in the business sector across the state of New York. The HCCQ vows to work towards reaching its fullest potential to be thegreatest organization it can be. The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Queens will disguise its own limit by challenging itself to take on new endeavors. We look forward to working with each of you and anticipate your participation in our concerted efforts. Cury, Hispanic Female Entrepreneur Presented to “Patricia Bonnen” by Peter Burgos, Hispanic Male Entrepreneur Presented to “Andres Rodriguez” by Robert Velasquez, Corporate Diversity Award Presented to “Healthfirst” by Jose Rey, Media Partner Award Presented to “NY1” by Alfonso Quiroz, The President’s Award Presented to “Dan Miner” by Patricia Mahecha, Lifetime Achievement Award Presented to Ernesto Cury by Patricia Mahecha. The Emcee for the event was Arelis Aguilar, many Hispanic business leaders from Queens attended the event ,Newly elected Senator Jose Peralta was in attendance, to learn more about the Queens Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, log onto their website at www.http://www.hccq.org Heather McClellan was born in Baker, Oregon and raised in McAllen, Texas. she lived in Houston for a year and attended the University of Texas at Austin (liberal arts, undeclared) for two years before transferring to Manhattan's Fashion Institute of Technology, where her major is Fashion Merchandising Management. She plans to have an editorial career in fashion journalism here in New York. If it weren't for fashion journalism, she would pursue a career in her other passion: genetics technology. Heather's column will feature articles written about famous celebrities, community heads, sports figures, politicians, film festivals, cultural festivals and much more.
