Clinton Global Initative Global Meeting

The Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting brings together a diverse group of the world’s most distinguished leaders from government, business, and civil society to examine today's most pressing global challenges and transform that awareness into tangible action.

Since its inception in 2005, CGI has convened a community that includes more than 80 current and former heads of state, hundreds of top CEOs and non-profit leaders, major philanthropists, and 10 of the last 16 Nobel Peace Laureates. In 2007, more than 950 credentialed media covered the Annual Meeting.

CGI introduced a number of new features that enriched the CGI member experience and helped create a more dynamic and navigable Annual Meeting. These included CGI Connect, a new web-based platform that connected members, commitments, and ideas, and CGI Exchange, an exhibition of partnership opportunities at the Annual Meeting that gave commitment-makers the opportunity to showcase their projects and accomplishments.

The program for the 2008 Annual Meeting concentrated on challenges and opportunities in four focus areas: education, energy and climate change, global health and poverty alleviation. The plenary sessions are a central component of the Annual Meeting, designed to help participants gain insights into the larger context of the world’s most pressing challenges. Organized as panel discussions featuring several world leaders and a distinguished moderator, plenary sessions introduce and assess cross-sectoral issues for further examination within the working sessions. Working sessions, which enable members to learn from global topic experts and fellow members, are designed to transform ideas into action. Each 90-minute working session is divided into three segments. The first segment features a 30-minute panel discussion among three to four leaders already taking action on a specific issue. During the second segment, audience members collaboratively assess opportunities for action through intimate, highly interactive table discussions led by knowledgeable, professionally trained facilitators. The final segment reconvenes the larger discussion, and through the use of information technology, enables real-time analysis and summary of the many proposals developed during the table discussions.

Some of the attendees who attended the 2008 meeting were: Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Billionaire Bill Gates, His Excellency Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, His Excellency Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg ,Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Norway, Actors Drew BarryMoore, Matt Damon, and many many more to name.
